Kweixing Tower

You never know what floor you’re on—are you on the first floor or the 22nd?

Kweixing Tower is a historic cultural landmark in Chongqing. While many places in China have Kweixing Towers, Chongqing’s is definitely the most unique. It visually showcases the city’s distinctive mountainous terrain. When you first walk up from the street, you might think you’re on the first floor, only to suddenly find yourself on the 22nd. This vividly illustrates the magical characteristics of Chongqing—you never know what floor you’re on. Kuixing Tower has also become a must-visit spot for tourists looking to take photos during their Chongqing trip.

Surrounding Kuixing Tower in Chongqing are tall buildings and skyscrapers.

The two “suspended” sky bridges between the square and the office buildings are a major hotspot in Chongqing. Standing on the bridges, visitors can experience the vertical drops of the mountainous city, feeling both the thrill and awe. Each bridge is about 23 meters long and 4 meters wide, with an impressive height of 65.8 meters above the ground. However, there’s no need to worry about safety, as they can support the weight of around 368 adults.

From the top of Kuixing Tower, you can overlook the residential buildings of Chongqing.

Practical Travel Tips

  1. People who are afraid of heights should be careful—hold onto the handrails, as the bridge might sway slightly. But don’t worry, it’s very sturdy.
  2. Kweixing Pavilion is just a 10-minute walk from Jiefangbei, so it’s recommended to visit both attractions together.

How Visitors Rate the Kweixing Tower

Local tourists from China

Kweixing Pavilion is the spot you see online where you think you're on the first floor, but you're actually on the 22st. Because of Chongqing's mountainous terrain, what looks like a huge plaza is actually 22 floors up. It’s definitely breathtaking and a bit scary! You can’t help but admire the skills of Chongqing's architects. You won’t find anything like this in other cities, so you’ve got to come and check it out!

In October, I visited Chongqing with my family. In the afternoon, we walked from Jiefangbei to Kuixing Pavilion, which took about 20 minutes. The main entrance is near a hospital, and if you take the stairs next to it, you’ll find a big plaza with food stalls, a supermarket, and a theater. There are also some seats where you can take a break.
As we walked further, we spotted a suspended bridge. From up there, it’s 22 floors high! It’s amazing that the road and the 22st floor are at the same level—wow, what a magical view! After crossing the bridge, there’s a hotel, and right across is the Yangtze River, with boats passing by. Lots of people were taking pictures on the bridge. I can’t wait to go back next time!

My first stop in Chongqing was to experience the striking contrast of being on the same level as both the first and twenty-second floors. In the subway, you’ll have to walk a bit, and when you come out and see a hospital, don’t worry. Just follow the crowd and take the stairs on the right to reach the main platform. Over by the two bridges, you can see the contrasting views of the first and twenty-second floors. Standing on the bridge and looking down is still breathtaking, even after seeing countless videos and photos. When you reach the 22nd floor, there’s a spot where you can capture views of the river. For someone visiting Chongqing for the first time, it’s definitely a strong visual impact!
