International tourists

Zhujiajiao was the perfect place for a cozy overnight New Year's Eve stay. We rented an Airbnb house, and enjoyed strolling around this great ancient town.. especially at night when it really dazzles.

Zhujiajiao is called the Venice of China, and for good reason. This tour is very culturally enriching, and off the beaten path. Zhujiajiao is not very crowed, and is for people who enjoy learning about the history of old China.

Local tourists from China

On October 4th, during the National Day holiday, I went to Shanghai to visit relatives and decided to check out Zhujiajiao Ancient Town. Since I got there early, there weren't too many tourists. The security guard mentioned that a lot of foreign tourists were arriving in groups. The ancient town is free to enter, and there are various stalls selling Shanghai snacks, which you can sample for free. But since it was free, I felt a bit shy and only bought a few things. By the time we finished and left, the entrance was already packed with people! So, I recommend going right when it opens for the best experience.

As a local from Shanghai, visiting Zhujiajiao Ancient Town for the first time was quite a shock. It was my first time seeing so many international tourists from different countries. Getting there was super convenient. I took the subway line 17 and exited at exit 1, where you can hop on a boat to the ancient town for 40 CNY per person, but you have to wait a bit. There's no entrance fee for the town, but some attractions inside do charge. I recommend checking out Fangsheng Bridge, Yuanjin Zen Temple, and Beidajie. The view from the five-arch stone bridge is really nice. There’s also a spot in the town that's perfect for photos, and I saw many girls in traditional Chinese clothing taking pictures around there!

I traveled to Shanghai this weekend and checked out Zhujiajiao, which is free to enter. Parking here is just 20 CNY for the whole day. As soon as I entered the ancient town, I was drawn in by the beauty of the water village. The rivers wind through, and ancient bridges span across. Walking along North Street, I passed shops on both sides, with all kinds of delicious Shanghai snacks filling the air with tempting aromas. Riding a little boat on the river, I admired the stunning ancient Chinese architecture on both banks. In Kezhi Garden, the blend of Chinese and Western styles is really unique. It felt like time slowed down, away from the city's hustle and bustle. Even though it was a bit crowded with tourists, the town's charm and peaceful vibe still captivated me. Overall, my trip to Zhujiajiao was quite pleasant—if only the weather had been a bit cooler!
